SONIA BASHIR KABIR

Sonia Bashir Kabir is a Bangladeshi female impact investor focusing on tech startups in emerging markets. Sonia is very active with the tech community as founder/co founder, angel investor and philanthropist.

Educated and trained in Silicon Valley, Sonia lived in Northern California for 20 years. After completing her Bachelor of Science and MBA degrees, she worked in Silicon Valley for Sun Microsystems & Oracle, investment houses and start ups. Sonia relocated to Bangladesh and served as Managing Director for Microsoft Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan and Laos, Country Director for Dell Bangladesh, Director Business Development for SE Asia Microsoft and Chief Operating Officer for Aamra Technologies.

Sonia is Vice Chairman of United Nations Technology Bank – Least Developed Countries and Member of the Governing Board of UNESCO’s Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP).

2019: Sonia was the 1st woman to receive the ICT Business Person of the Year Award from The Daily Star ICT Awards (biggest award platform in the country)
2017: Sonia was recognized as 1 of the 10 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) pioneers globally by United Nations Global Compact.
2016: Sonia was 1 of the 10 recipients of Microsoft’s Prestigious Founders Award given by Bill Gates.

Sonia is the Advisor for Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI).

FBCCI is the apex trade organization of Bangladesh playing a pivotal role in consultative and advisory capacity, safeguarding the interest of the private sector in the country.

Sonia is the Founder of the 1st Womens’ IT Association in Bangladesh – Bangladesh Women in IT (BWIT) and the 1st Female Tech Investors Network (FTIN). She is also the Founder of The Angels Network (TAN).

Sonia is the Founder President of TiE Dhaka Chapter and currently serves as Advisor.

TIE is a Silicon Valley head quartered not for profit association for fostering entrepreneurship.
